IMPORTANT INFORMATION REGARDING SCHOOL MEAL ACCOUNTS

Dear Parent/Guardians:

It is the policy of the OABCIG Community School Districts to offer breakfast and lunch to all students registered and

attending a district attendance center.  The OABCIG Food Service departments strive to produce quality, nutritious meals

at an affordable price. OABCIG Community School Districts want to make it clear that the last thing we wish to do is embarrass children or make them go hungry.  OABCIG Community School DistrictsŐ nutrition departments are federally funded; therefore, not authorized to extend credit for unpaid school meals.  If your child(ren) does not have money in their school meal account, he/she will be given three (3) notices that their lunch account is out of money.  On the fourth (4th) day, if money is not paid, your child(ren) will receive an Ňalternate mealÓ.  The alternate meal consists of a peanut butter sandwich and a carton of milk for each meal he/she wishes to eat until money is put into their school meal account.

Alternate meals are not reimbursable meals; they are a commodity provided by the OABCIG Community School Districts

to help prevent our students from going hungry.

Parents can check lunch balances on-line at any time.  If you do not have a login name and password to access your child(ren)Ős school meal account, please contact the secretary at your childŐs school of attendance to receive one. School meals can be prepaid as far in advance as you wish or they can be purchased at the point of service.  Any money left over

in a lunch account is carried forward to the next school year, refunded in the event the student moves or graduates, or

may be carried down to a younger sibling.

If you are having financial difficulty; We Want to Help You! OABCIG Schools encourage families to fill out an Eligibility Application.  These forms are available at every school office or online at the schoolŐs website http://oabcig.org

One application will cover all of your children attending the OABCIG Community School Districts and Ida County Headstart.

If you qualify financially, your child(ren) may eat free or reduced-price school meals.  Reduced-price school lunches cost

$.40 and reduced-price school breakfasts cost $.30. Ala carte items, second entrŽes, and second milks can only be purchased from a school meal account if there is a positive balance or with cash at the point of service.

If you have any questions about the Eligibility Application or need help completing the form, please stop by the office of Wanda Schiernbeck at 900 John Montgomery Drive in Ida Grove or call 364-3687 or stop by the office of Jann Murphy

at 600 Maple Street in Odebolt or call 668-2289 for assistance.

ONCE AGAIN, PLEASE BE AWARE THAT THE OABCIG COMMUNITY SCHOOL DISTRICTS MEAL PROGRAMS WILL NOT

OFFER REGULAR SCHOOL MEALS TO STUDENTS WHO HAVE A NEGATIVE BALANCE IN THEIR SCHOOL MEAL ACCOUNTS

OR WHO HAVE NOT COMPLETED AND RETURNED AN IOWA ELIGIBILITY APPLICATION FOR FREE OR REDUCED-PRICE SCHOOL MEALS.  PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU KEEP YOUR CHILD(REN)ŐS SCHOOL MEAL ACCOUNTS UP TO DATE.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR COOPERATION IN THIS IMPORTANT ENDEAVOR!
