Grading:

Students are graded on their own ability to work hard. Students will be graded on their convictions to learn what they can, and on their contributions to the learning environment. (The grade you earn will be applied to your GPA and you will receive credit just like your other classes.)

Daily preparation/contributions (40% of grade)

An enjoyable & educational choral program filled with pride can't exits without the conscious efforts of all its members. Attention to attendance is imperative and will be part of the grade. Since rehearsal is where a majority of our work as a choir happens, it is very important that students be in attendance. Students have the opportunity to earn 5 points for each day of class. The points are earned for posture, listening skills, participation, punctuality, being prepared to learn. (pencil, folder, cooperation, attitude and attention to the director.)

Rehearsal etiquette:

  • Students will be respectful of other students and the teacher at all times.
  • Students will be in their seats with their music folder and pencil when the bell rings.
  • Exemplary behavior includes but is not limited to: appropriate discussion, note taking in your score, studiousness, maturity, volunteering, leadership & positive attitudes & effort.
  • Poor behavior includes but is not limited to: excessive/inappropriate talking, not participating, insubordination, breaking general classroom/school rules, chewing gum.

Evaluations (20% of grade)

Each choir student will be evaluated on the curriculum content that we have studied during the course of each quarter. These evaluations will be done during lesson and/or class and are not designed to put a student on the spot, but rather a time for them to share what they have learned. Some evaluations will be written, while others will be performance based individually or in small groups. (everyone will be assigned a 15-minute lesson every other week. These may be individual or small group depending on your needs.)

Concert participation/semester curriculum evaluation (40% of grade)

Each grading period you will be evaluated on how well you are striving to learn our vocal music curriculum. Concerts are worth 100 points. The concerts are a required part of the grade for this class. Very few reasons will be accepted for an absence. Therefore, it is the responsibility of the parent and student to avoid any conflicts with these dates.
