SUMMARY OF THE JANUARY 4, 2012 WORK SESSIONS

OF THE BATTLE CREEK-IDA GROVE COMMUNITY SCHOOL DISTRICT

A special work session of the Battle Creek-Ida Grove Board was held January 4, 2012 in the Board Room at the OA/BCIG High School. President, Berny Sohm called the work session to order at 5:30 p.m. Those present included Jeff Rasmussen, Brian Riessen and Mark Bogue. Stephanie Konradi, Bev Bower and Michael Luft were absent. Also in attendance were Dani Trimble, Kathy Leonard and Rick Dean from Canon, Moss, Brygger & Associates, architects for the Ida Grove elementary addition. The purpose of the work session was to discuss potential language for bidding documents related to the elementary addition.

Discussion was held on language requirements for bidding documents including liquidated damages or rewards; adjusted school calendar, contracts to include starting and completion dates; completion date of bid documents, timeline for receiving bids, sprinkler system in existing building and parking/bus lane changes.

The architect will talk to potential contractors about possible timelines to complete the building prior to start of school year. Discussion was also held about setting up a board committee to talk to the Ida Grove City Council about safety and traffic issues at the elementary site.

Sohm closed the work session at 6:10 p.m.

 

A special joint work session of the Battle Creek-Ida Grove and Odebolt-Arthur School Boards was held January 4, 2012 at 6:30 p.m. in the Board room at the OA/BCIG High School. President, Berny Sohm called the work session to order at 6:30 p.m. Paul Neumann called the work session to order for Odebolt-Arthur. The purpose of the work session was to study transportation within and between the districts.

Those present included Jeff Rasmussen, Brian Riessen, Mark Bogue, Stephanie Konradi and Bev Bower. Absent was Michael Luft. Also in attendance were Kim Bleckwehl, Transportation Director, Kevin Weber, Vehicle Serviceman, Dani Trimble, Alan Henderson, Tony Spradlin and Deanna Thies. Members of the Odebolt-Arthur board present were Traci Bengford, Brad Lundell, Pat Hoefling and Naomi Lozier.

Trimble distributed handouts of the history of routes for both districts. Discussion was held on current routes and rider counts, maps of enrollment, training for new staff and annual training requirements, training for students and addressing concerns from parents, students and drivers. Bleckwehl and Weber addressed questions from the boards regarding length of time on busses, possible overcrowding and discipline issues. A letter from Barb Meier was distributed to the boards.

Sohm closed the work session at 8:00 p.m.

Also in attendance were Dani Trimble, Larry Allen, Alan Henderson, Tony Spradlin, Patrick Miller, Traci Bengford, Brad Lundell, Naomi Lozier, Paul Neumann and Doc Holmes. The purpose of the session was to discuss the future of the school building and grounds in Battle Creek.

Trimble distributed documents outlining the Request For Proposal (RFP) process and timelines and stated this is the process school boards use when determining the use of a building that is no longer being used. Discussion was held on athletic needs. Miller handed out documents that outlined the current programs in the Battle Creek Facility and discussed re-location of the Falcon Academy.  Student numbers and usage time for Falcon Academy and the matting and framing class that is currently held at the WIT Building was also discussed.

The board then discussed how the land and buildings should be offered for sale and the possible donation of some of the land surrounding the facility. Trimble reviewed the Battle Creek Facility Study Committee   recommendations and the board discussed how much land the school might want to keep and maintain. The board then discussed having a site survey done and having individual board members walk the grounds.
