SUMMARY OF THE NOVEMBER 7, 2011 WORK SESSION

OF THE BATTLE CREEK-IDA GROVE COMMUNITY SCHOOL DISTRICT

Battle Creek-Ida Grove Board President, Berny Sohm called the work session to order at 6:30 p.m. Board members present included Jeff Rasmussen, Stephanie Konradi, Brian Riessen, Bev Bower and Mark Bogue. Michael Luft arrived at 6:40 p.m. Also in attendance were Dani Trimble, Alan Henderson, Patrick Miller, Tony Spradlin, Kathy Leonard and approximately 40 visitors.

The agenda items were whole grade sharing with Odebolt-Arthur, facilities planning and communication with the public. Topics discussed included transportation, bussing, elementary addition, modern facilities for elementary students, future grade configuration based on student population, reorganization, five & ten year plans, building closures, cost savings to the general fund, updates at the current elementary, window replacement at the elementary, preschool funding, remodeling the elementary, sharing middle school sports, public support, one way sharing, educational setting at current middle school, supervision on the busses, internet on the busses, cost comparisons of the current middle school under whole grade sharing and costs for a middle school in Battle Creek, high school student comments, athletic participation numbers, facilities planning, separate board meetings, WIT building plans, building new auditorium, hiring outside firm to conduct building plans for combined district, Citizens’ Advisory Committee topics, public communication, newsletter, blogs, “District Talk”, website, community forums and tape recording future meetings.

Sohm closed the work session at 8:00 p.m.
