Middle School Mock Trial
OA-BCIG’s Middle School Mock Trial teams did an excellent job of representing their school at the M.S. Mock Trial Competition in Council Bluffs on Tuesday, November 1st. Each team competed in two rounds of competition. The 8th grade team finished with 226.75 points. The 7th grade team finished with 216.25 points. Fourteen teams competed in our region. Both OA-BCIG teams should be congratulated on outstanding performances against tough competition! The students were prepared and defended their case with confidence. Receiving Outstanding Performance Awards were witnesses: Jackson Godbersen and Eric Sibenaller and attorneys: Nick Larson, Emma Schirrmacher and Trust Wells. Talented and Gifted Teacher, Missy Jensen and Attorney, Peter Goldsmith of Boerner & Goldsmith Law Firm coached the teams.

On Tuesday, November 1, the OA-BCIG Middle School Mock Trial teams will travel to Council Bluffs to compete at Iowa Western Community College in the 2016 Iowa Middle School Mock Trial Program
Twenty students in the Talented and Gifted program are participating in Mock Trial this year. The middle school has two teams competing. The 7th Grade TAG students competing are: Aidan Bower, Mary Carlson, Jackson Godbersen, Melissa Hewitt, Nick Larson, Jaxson Claussen, Caleigh Loger, Anna Mogensen, Nainoa O’Brien, and Alexis Ulrich. The 8th Grade TAG students competing are: Trust Wells, Emma Schirrmacher, Anna Winterrowd, Truman Clark, Elle Schroeder, Zach Dunker, Joie Matthies, Eric Sibenaller, Lillian Hoffman and Kylee Dausel.
This year's case, The Estate of Alejandro Desafios vs. The Storm Chase, LLC, is a civil case where the The Estate of Alejandro Desafios is prosecuting the defendant for negligence in their extreme obstacle race causing the death of Alejandro Desafios. The plaintiff has to prove the defense is at fault by more than 50% to recover damages. The OA-BCIG M.S. Mock Trial teams have been preparing since the beginning of school and are excited to compete.
