Congratulations to the following track athletes for their STATE qualifying performance at last night’s meet in Treynor.  State competition will be held at Drake Stadium on Thursday, May 17 – Saturday, May 19.  Good Luck!  There may be more qualifiers as the official event times are compiled.  Updates to be posted.

Wear Red For Heart Disease Awareness

Students and staff were asked to wear red on Friday, February 3 to raise awareness for heart disease and overall heart health.

Tech Plus Cars

The winner of the Tech Plus car contest was Quest Hack.

Tech Plus Tests Boats

Tech Plus students went to the Ida Grove Rec Center to test their carboard boats to see whose would float the longest.

State Dance Competition Results

Congratulations to the dance team on receiving a Division I rating in Jazz and placing 4th in Class II and receiving a Division I rating in Hip Hop and placing 4th in Class IV. The team also received an Academic Distinction Award.

SPA Guitars
Students in SPA (Scientific Principles and Applications) have been constructing guitars in class.

Veterans Day

Members of the OA-BCIG students body showed up at Cobb Park early on Veterans Day to help raise the flags. The Food & Cuisine class served lunch to the area veterans at the Rec Center later that day.

Pink Out Check Presentation
The volleyball team held a "Pink Out" night in October and raised $706 for breast cancer awareness. Horn Memorial Hospital was once again the recipient of these funds, which will be used to provide 3D mammography services at Horn Memorial Hospital.

State Solo Contest

Congratulations to our state solo contestants on all receiving Superior "I" Ratings at the ISDTA Solo contest in Newton on November 4. Riley Snyder placed 9th, Taylor Beck 6th, and Ethan Ernst 5th.

Ag Activities

Students in Ms. Mittag's Ag classes have been participating in lots of hands on learning activities. Introduction to Ag students were engaged in determining soil textures and Animal Science students practiced ear notching on slices of bologna.

BVU Forensic Competition
Four of our science students along with Mrs. Sadler attended a forensic competition at Buena Vista University on October 28. The team placed 3rd out of 20 teams.

Men & Women in Song


Seventeen members of the choir participated in the Morningside College Men & Women in Song festival on Thursday, October 27.


Sac County Manufacturing Day
On October 26, fourteen high school students had the opportunity to gain more awareness of manufacturing companies in Sac County.  Mrs. Dooley and Mrs. Buse took students from Mrs. Buse’s Tech Plus classroom, along with students who were interested in manufacturing, on Sac County Manufacturing day. We toured Lundell Plastics in Odebolt, VT Industries in Sac City, EVAPCO in Lake View, and Western Iowa Energy in Wall Lake.  Students spent the day hearing from different employees and asked many questions related to career opportunities and educational requirements.  This event was organized by Sac County Economic and Tourism Development.  Our students would like to thank these companies for inviting them to learn more about what these companies do as they think about the future.  They would also like to thank these companies and others who helped provide our students with a boxed lunch from Subway at the Wall Lake Community Center.

Juniors Attend College Fair
Members of the junior class traveled to MVAO High School on Tuesday, October 11 to take part in their annual college fair.

Law Enforcement Appreciation Meal
OA-BCIG High School recently hosted its 2nd annual law enforcement appreciation lunch on Thursday, October 6.
FFA News
The OA-BCIG FFA chapter has had a busy start to the 2016-17 school year! We kicked off the school year with many career development events such as: livestock judging in Dunlap, sub-district soil judging in Wall Lake, district livestock judging in Spencer, trap shooting in Manson, district soil judging at Sioux Center, and horse/livestock judging contests at Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville, Missouri. Students that participated in these events include: Elliott Bengford, Skylar Reis, Daltyn Swanger, Bree Henningsen, Ty Tollufsen, Claire Sohm, Clayton Mandernach, Jeren McKibben, Hayden Roeder, the entire Horticulture class, Corin Bower, Greysenne Meier, Amanda Gunderson, and Kenny Hausman.

Other events that FFA members have participated in are: Odebolt, Battle Creek, and Ida Grove summer parades, volunteered at the local food bank, 4th Grade Ag Day sponsored by Farm Bureau, tour Northwest Missouri State University’s campus and Agricultural Sciences Department, and participated at the Ida and Sac Country Fairs.

Thank you everyone that bought tickets and supported the FFA Greenhouse Fundraiser. Also, another big thank you goes to Tiefenthaler Quality Meats for storing and processing the hog for us--the two lucky winners were Vickie Linman and Jim Wareham.
New Scoreboard Installed

A new scoreboard was installed at the football field/track this fall. The purchase of the score board was made possible through the help of donations including one from the United Bank of Iowa.

Falcon Decor for Football Field
Art club donated and installed "Put-In-Cups" that spell out the word "Falcons" on the north side of the track. Put-In-Cups are small square shapes that snap into the chain link fence. The art club members followed a template to get the final design. 

Ag News
Ag students recently tested their skills by participating in some CDE contests in class.

Art Department Updates     

Over the summer, the art room received some new upgrades. We have nine top of the line art tables that seat two students with stools, a new marker board, bulletin board and projector. The kids are very excited to come to class each day and create art with this wonderful new equipment. A big thanks to all who support the art and fine arts department and don't forget to keep your eye out for the OA-BCIG artists in action!

Physics Egg Drop

The OA-BCIG physics students conducted an egg drop lab.  They were to find the best ways to protect their egg while thinking of things such as force, air resistance, momentum, pressure, and gravity. The goal was to be able to drop their created egg shelter from the highest distance without breaking the egg.

Rock Climbing Wall
The National Guard brought their rock climbing wall for the OA-BCIG PE/weights students to try on September 21.
