OABCIG first graders went on their annual Spring field trip to Moorehead Park. The first graders did three centers. The first center was with Naturalist Danielle and she took the students on a hike to learn all about birds in their natural environment. They even got to use binoculars. Then the next center was a nature journal where the students used magnifying glasses to observe and investigate the area around them. Then the students recorded their observations in their journal. The last center was entitled "Bird Beak Buffet" a hands-on-activity that the students used various tools that acted as a bird's beak to see which worked best to get a certain bird's food in the various environments. The first graders learned so much and we are so lucky to have such a great resource in our district.

Last week, Mrs. First's second-grade class received their published books! They were excited to read their pages and check out their illustrations! 📚

Join us for the Odebolt K-2 Spring Concert this Tuesday, April 15 at 7 PM in the Odebolt Middle School Gym 🎶

The final day to order the Preschool - 8th grade yearbook is April 17!
No late orders will be accepted. Yearbooks will be delivered and distributed before the end of the school year

The 3rd and 4th grade classes had the opportunity to participate in a mobile seed survivor classroom that was in connection with Nutrien. The students participated in a session that involved a presentation about agriculture, digging for fossils, planting a sunflower, and investigating soil. They also got to go inside their traveling trailer participating in interactive games on plant nutrients. We are lucky to get the trailer to come to our school as it only goes to a handful of states during the year and comes from Canada.

OABCIG CSD will dismiss students at 1:00 PM on Wednesday, April 9, for staff to participate in professional development.

3rd graders from both buildings went to the Sioux City Symphony where students were able to sing and play their recorders with the symphony. They then went to the Sioux City Public Museum where they explored the history of Sioux City, viewed replicas of dinosaur fossils, and dug for dinosaur fossils.

The first grade classes at Ida Grove and Odebolt are learning about Powerful Forces in our reading curriculum. One of these powerful forces is the wind. The students learned fun facts about wind, but also some important information on how the wind impacts people and nature. What better way for our students to experience the powerful force of wind, but by making their own kite.
We would like to thank Mrs. Masters, OABCIG Tag coordinator, who was instrumental in this activity as she brought the kite kits for every first grade student and instructed them how to make their own kite. She also brought middle school Tag students to help our students with this activity. After decorating their kites the first graders actually got to fly their kites outside and experience first-hand the powerful force of wind, and we were very lucky to have a somewhat windy day.
