3rd Grade did a fun activity with Mrs. Masters. Students were given a challenge to design and build a boat out of one piece of tin foil. Then they had to see how many pennies it could hold. They worked together to design, create and re-create their designs!

Please join us in welcoming Dannielle Book to OABCIG Community Schools! Dannielle will be joining our team as a 4th Grade Teacher at Ida Grove Elementary.
Dannielle is looking forward to getting to know her students, building meaningful relationships, and creating lots of great memories throughout the school year. This will be her third year teaching, after spending her first two years teaching in Schleswig.

OABCIG School District elementary students in grades 3–5 were recently recognized with Citizenship, Academic, and Presidential Awards during the school’s annual awards presentation.
The Citizenship Award honors students who demonstrate outstanding citizenship through respect, responsibility, safety, and kindness.
The Academic Award recognizes student achievement on the Iowa Statewide Assessment of Student Progress (ISASP). Beginning in third grade, students complete the ISASP assessments during a week-long testing period. Students are tested in English Language Arts and Mathematics in all grades, while Science assessments are administered in grades 5, 8, and 11. Students who scored in the “Advanced” category were recognized for their achievement.
Two types of Presidential Awards were also presented. The Presidential Award for Outstanding Academic Excellence is based on student performance in math and/or reading on the ISASP, along with grade point average. The Presidential Award for Outstanding Academic Achievement recognizes students who demonstrate exceptional educational improvement, commitment, or intellectual growth in their academic subjects.
One Academic Achievement recipient was selected from each fifth-grade classroom. Each Presidential Award includes a certificate bearing the signatures of Donald Trump, the U.S. Secretary of Education, and OABCIG Principal Alan Henderson, along with a pin sponsored by the OABCIG School District.

Yesterday, Mrs. Schmidt's class had a Glow Day to review some of the skills they learned this year.
Our final week of school is packed with activities! Here are some additional events happening across the district.
The Ida Grove 2nd graders visited Moorehead Park this May for their annual pollination field trip. While they were there, they learned more about bees, turned a student into a bee, went on a hike to find plants the pollinators are visiting this time of year, heard and saw lots of birds, and even found a DeKay's brownsnake. The weather was perfect that day. Thank you to Danielle and Ida County Conservation for having us.
Ida Grove Elementary Falcons of the Week 💜
The Ida Grove First Grade students performed “Contraction Surgery”. The students became word surgeons as they learned how to make contractions! The students had masks, gloves, and hats to be able to dress the part of a surgeon. Mrs. Nielsen’s high school students came to assist us during the activity. Thank you Mr.s Nielsen’s high schoolers.
Students worked carefully cutting the words apart and surgically removing letters in order to shorten the two words into a contraction. Each doctor was equipped with the knowledge and skills needed to form words like “I’ll”, “They’re”, and “Wouldn’t”.
All of the surgeons were very successful and everyone had a fun learning experience.

Rural Non-Congregate Summer Meals will be available again for the summer of 2026. We will serve grab and go style meals from both the Ida Grove Elementary and the Odebolt Elementary/Middle School buildings. Meals will be served from the front entrance/canopy area of the buildings. Meal pick-up times are 11:30-12:30 at both locations.
Meal service is only being offered from June 1 - June 30.
Meals are FREE and for students/children only (18 & Under), no adult meals are being offered.
Meal would include the lunch (for that day) and the next day's breakfast.
Meal service is scheduled to begin on Monday, June 1, 2026.
