Doesn’t every child dream of being a prince or princess? Well, our first graders got the chance to live out that dream for one day. We ended our last Wit and Wisdom Reading Module of the year by having a Prince and Princess Ball. With all the fun, we also encourage them to learn. The First graders read Cinderella stories from all around the world. Through these different tales of Cinderella, the first graders deepened their vocabulary, knowledge of common story elements, and similar themes. What is amazing is that the first graders learned people around the world all admire Cinderella even when the story elements change. This taught them some life lessons to never give up and to always be kind. The students were able to have their picture taken with their favorite Cinderella story and will be writing an opinion story about their choice. Learning can be fun!!!
For the Ball, the first graders dressed up like princes and princesses. Once at the ball the students enjoyed a royal feast, which was a snack and drink. A very big shout out and thank you to our PTP!! They provided the decorations and refreshments for the ball. For entertainment, the students watched the movie Cinderella. Thank you to Mrs. Zobel and Mr. Henderson for popping our popcorn for the movie. For added fun, our activity teachers got involved and did Prince and Princess activities in their classrooms throughout the week. The students made crowns in Art; did a prince and princess scavenger hunt in Guidance; listened to more story versions of Cinderella in the Library; sang princess songs in Music; played a game in PE fit for prince and princesses; and played prince and princess themed games in Technology. It was a week filled with a common theme but focused on learning while having fun.
The first graders learned a lot and many of them said it was the best day ever! As teachers, that made all the hard work worth it, we do this always for the students! Thank you to everyone who made this a success for the first graders.

Ida Grove Elementary Falcons of the Week 💜
OABCIG first graders went on their annual Spring field trip to Moorehead Park. The first graders did three centers. The first center was with Naturalist Danielle and she took the students on a hike to learn all about birds in their natural environment. They even got to use binoculars. Then the next center was a nature journal where the students used magnifying glasses to observe and investigate the area around them. Then the students recorded their observations in their journal. The last center was entitled "Bird Beak Buffet" a hands-on-activity where the students used various tools that acted as a bird's beak to see which worked best to get a certain bird's food in the various environments. The first graders learned so much and we are so lucky to have such a great resource in our district.
Third graders at Ida Grove Elementary published a book about the winter olympics. Each student chose their favorite winter sport, wrote about the sport, and then drew an illustration that represented it. Great job to these young authors and artists! ❄️✍️🎨

The Ida Grove third graders learned about artist Jackson Pollock in their Wit and Wisdom reading. They were able to create their own abstract painting using techniques that Jackson used with his paintings.

Ron Demers came to talk to the Ida Grove 3rd grade students about the weather. ☀️☁️ He talked about what a meteorologist does and discussed different types of weather. He explained many things we can do to be safe and prepared! ❄️🌪️
