The Ida Grove First Grade students performed ‘Contraction Surgery”. The students became word surgeons as they learned how to make contractions! The students had masks, gloves, and hats to be able to dress the part of a surgeon (Donated by Megan Wellendorf). Mrs. Nielsen’s high school students came to assist us during the activity. Thank you Mrs. Nielsen’s high schoolers.
Students worked carefully cutting the words apart and surgically removing letters in order to shorten the two words into a contraction. Each doctor was equipped with the knowledge and skills needed to form words like "I'll", "They're", and "Wouldn't".
All of the surgeons were very successful and everyone had a fun learning experience.

The OABCIG 5th Grade had a busy day! They started their morning with a reading challenge celebration. If they read 1,000 pages, they got to enjoy a morning at the Ida Grove Rec Center. There was swimming, volleyball, basketball, games, and a treat provided by both PTP groups. In the afternoon, we were invited to Horn Memorial Hospital to have our annual Arbor Day presentation with the USDA Office. We heard from them about importance of Arbor Day and planting trees. Then we went out to the hospital grounds to plant the first of many apple trees that our 5th grade classes will add to their growing apple orchard. Thank you for asking us to be apart of this new tradition!
The Ida Grove 4th grade students took a field trip to the Henry Doorly Zoo in Omaha. This trip was started up again after it stopped when COVID hit. We were excited for the opportunity to take the students to the zoo again!

No late orders will be accepted. Yearbooks will be delivered and distributed before the end of the school year
The 3rd and 4th grade classes had the opportunity to participate in a mobile seed survivor classroom that was in connection with Nutrien. The students participated in a session that involved a presentation about agriculture, digging for fossils, planting a sunflower, and investigating soil. They also got to go inside their traveling trailer participating in interactive games on plant nutrients. We are lucky to get the trailer to come to our school as it only goes to a handful of states during the year and comes from Canada.
Ida Grove 4th and 5th grade Spring Concert this Thursday, April 10th at 7:00 p.m. in the High School Auditorium.
OABCIG CSD will dismiss students at 1:00 PM on Wednesday, April 9, for staff to participate in professional development.

The Ida Grove 3rd graders wrote a book that was published! They chose a scientist that they would want to be like from the scientists they learned about in their Wit and Wisdom curriculum. They also illustrated a picture to go along with what they wrote.

3rd graders from both buildings went to the Sioux City Symphony where students were able to sing and play their recorders with the symphony. They then went to the Sioux City Public Museum where they explored the history of Sioux City, viewed replicas of dinosaur fossils, and dug for dinosaur fossils.
The first grade classes at Ida Grove and Odebolt are learning about Powerful Forces in our reading curriculum. One of these powerful forces is the wind. The students learned fun facts about wind, but also some important information on how the wind impacts people and nature. What better way for our students to experience the powerful force of wind, but by making their own kite.
We would like to thank Mrs. Masters, OABCIG Tag coordinator, who was instrumental in this activity as she brought the kite kits for every first grade student and instructed them how to make their own kite. She also brought middle school Tag students to help our students with this activity. After decorating their kites the first graders actually got to fly their kites outside and experience first-hand the powerful force of wind, and we were very lucky to have a somewhat windy day.
OABCIG Schools will be closed on Thursday, March 20th. Parent Teacher conferences scheduled for Thursday, March 20th are also cancelled. Parents can arrange another time to meet with a teacher(s) if they would like by reaching out to the teacher.
Due to the expected inclement weather, there will be no school for OABCIG Schools on Wednesday, March 19th.
OABCIG CSD will be running 2:30 PM Dismissals on Tuesday, March 18 and Thursday, March 20 for Parent Teacher Conferences.
There will be no school on Friday, March 21
Ron Demers came and talked to the Ida Grove 3rd and 4th graders about weather safety. He gave good tips on what you can do in different storm situations.
