Guinea babies (keets) at Ida Grove Elementary! Mrs. Wunschel (preschool teacher) has a flock of guineas at her farm that lay eggs and she found a huge nest with over 70 eggs in it. Her and Ms. Sohm (2nd grade teacher) each incubated around 20-22 eggs and got 30 keets (what the babies are called). The incubators used were paid for by the Ida County Farm Bureau and also a grant that Mrs. Wunschel received from the Iowa Agriculture Literacy Foundation a few years ago. The students really enjoyed getting to watch them hatch. What a fun and educational experience for them! They will be using the incubators again in the spring for chicks and maybe even more keets.

All of the 5th graders had the opportunity to visit the Lewis & Clark Interpretive Center, Riverboat Museum, and Sgt. Floyd Monument in Sioux City last Friday. They were able to make connections to things they have already learned in the first Wit & Wisdom ELA Module. They all had a great time!

4th graders in Ida Grove did a Science Demonstration on Cellular Respiration. Students used balloons to trap the carbon dioxide that resulted from a chemical reaction of yeast and water, comparing the bottles that had sugar added to those that did not.

Danielle Bennett with the Ida County Conservation came and visited the Ida Grove 3rd graders to talk about traits of an aquatic turtle and a land turtle. She explained the differences between the two and had our students identify which turtle they had in their groups. They each had the opportunity to hold the turtles as well!

Reminder, school picture retakes will be Wednesday, October 1st in all OABCIG buildings. If students took part in school pictures at the start of the year, then the student must bring their envelope of pictures to retakes. If a student was not here for school pictures in August, they should attend this retake session to have their picture taken.

Please complete a form listed below for EACH student you are signing up for retakes.
https://forms.gle/PxsNT2A9HJ5g5ndGA

Additionally, there is a Second Chance order going in with the retakes. You can order additional pictures in case you didn't order enough, OR you may use this link if you need to place your order for the first time for retake images: https://www.stevensonschoolphoto.com/schools

You will choose OABCIG, then School Photos 25. You will enter your email address, but you do NOT enter a password.  Scroll down until you see a button that says "Preorder." Click this to enter the Preorder site.  You do NOT need to sign your child up for retakes if you wish to order from the first picture day.

Yesterday, the Ida Grove 3rd graders had the opportunity to do an enrichment activity with Mrs. Masters. She had students build an aluminum foil boat and see how many pennies the boats would hold. She connected this to our Wit and Wisdom module in reading, as we are learning about the sea.
