This year's school closings and delays currently put OABCIG 2 hours below the minimum student contact hours required by the State. To make up those 2 hours, OABCIG will be cancelling our PD session currently scheduled for March 26th. This will make that Wednesday, March 26th a FULL DAY, no early dismissal.

February 3rd was a special day for the OABCIG Ida Grove Kindergarten and First Grade classes; it was the 100th day of school! To celebrate this accomplishment, we had some special projects for the students. One of these projects was for each class to collect 100 items for the local food pantry. And guess what? Each class not only reached this goal but actually surpassed it!!! Kindergarten collected 200 items and the First Grade collected 229 items for a grand total of 429 items! We invited Kris Gunderson and Julie Cameron from the food pantry to come to the school and talk to the students about the organization and what they do. The students had great questions, they asked “How do you volunteer?” and “How many items do you think went out this year?” It was also discussed what time of year is the food pantry most in need of items. We learned that Spring is when they need more items because with summer coming, students are not in school and are eating more meals at home. We also learned that Dollar General has partnered with local food banks to provide food for our local communities. What a great thing! Our students learned so much about the food pantry and all the great work that they do to provide a service to those in our community who may need some help. We would like to thank Kris and Julie again for coming.

The fifth graders in Ida Grove and Odebolt have been learning about the Civil War recently, so on Monday, January 27, they were able to meet three local Civil War reenactors. Terry Gerdes, Barry Bergman, and Keith Mentzer taught the students more about camp life, the cavalry, and the weapons used during the war. After their learning sessions, students gathered outside to witness a small replica cannon being shot (using blanks). We appreciate the men from 2nd Battery Iowa who spent the day sharing their expertise with the fifth grade students at OABCIG.
